Lack of machine create problem to check vegetables and fruits laced with pesticides

Problem has surfaced to check the vegetables and fruits laced with pesticides sold in the markets of Morang district for lack of a machine.
Although there was use of excessive amount of pesticide on vegetables and fruits, problem has surfaced to carryout monitoring due to the lack of machine.
According to the District Agriculture Development Office, Morang, there is only a machine to check the vegetables and fruits whether or not they contain pesticide residue.  The machine is at Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market--the largest wholesale centre of vegetables in the Kathmandu Valley.
Chief at the District Agriculture Development Office, Morang, Rajendra Upreti, said that they could not check vegetables and fruits sold in markets of eastern region including Biratnagar for lack of the machine.
Vegetables and fruits imported from Indian markets and sold in Biratnagar are also found laced with pesticide. The vegetables and fruits imported from India are also supplied to different main markets of the country including capital.
People are forced to buy vegetables and fruits which are rich in pesticide residues in lack of availability of organic vegetables. RSS
